Lake “A Tear of the Clouds,” the spiritual source of the Hudson River, quietly broods almost a mile up in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. Verplanck Colvin, upon discovering the lake in 1872, described it as “a minute, unpretending tear of the clouds” which “shivers in the breezes of the mountains.”
