Numinous The Music of Joseph C. Phillips Jr.

I was planning to premiere The Grey Land in 2017. Back in 2016 I had received a New Music USA project grant (after years of trying!) and then at the end of that year an JFund grant (after years of trying!), both to help fund a premiere performance. I had a first reading session in early 2016 and a second reading session at the beginning of 2017. All of that was working toward my 2017 premiere goal. But within three months, my mother-in-law, one of my best friends from undergrad university, and then my mother all died. So, while I did have a premiere of a commissioned work for the Fieldston 7th Band in the Bronx, I spent the better part of the rest of 2017 convalecing together with my family on a number of trips, all to help regroup within myself. Towards the end of the year I did get a little time to work on the monoopera and to compose so my premiere plans for #thegreyland changed to 2018.
